Manchester City reveals Agüero
Manchester City fans can now marvel at the iconic cheers of Sergio Agüero. On the night of May 13th, a statue was unveiled in honor of the former star sterdy.
She shows his joyaum exactly ten years ago after his most important goal for the Citizens when he marked the winning goal on the last matchday of the 2011/2012 season in the 93:20 minute of the game in the 3-2 against the Queens Park Rangers and in a gripping season finale City shot the first championship title in 44 years – and the city rival United still snatched the trophy.
“I am very grateful to the club that he created this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special,” said the former Argentine striker and city record goal scorer, whose contract had not been extended in the previous year after ten years.
He switched to FC Barcelona, but had to end his career because of heart problems at the age of 33. At the end of October 2021, he suddenly collapsed against Deportivo Alavés in the 40th minute of Barça’s league game.
The statue of Agüero, which is located on the east side of the Etihad Stadium, was constructed from thousands of welded parts from galvanized steel. It is illuminated with blue light at night.
